Apparently I first visited Spain as a very young child, when my parents took my family on a Club Med-style holiday, which probably had lots to be desired. But otherwise, it's not hard to see why Spain is an ideal holiday spot for tourists - it has sun, sand, and a welcoming atmosphere. Personally, I don't think it can match France and Italy on the food front, but still it's not awful.
In 2011 I visited Barcelona with my wife - we had a really enjoyable time looking at the architecture, eating tapas, lying by the (crowded!) beach, and soaking in the Spanish culture. I'd like to explore other parts of Spain at some point, including possibly Madrid as well as some off-the-beaten-track sea-side areas.
