Country #9

Gateway to Europe,
Sometimes bland, sometimes pretty,
Small and yet diverse.

I must have been through Belgium a number of times in my life, going from the UK towards somewhere else in Europe. I seem to recall that the surroundings can, at times, seem bland and uninspiring. But I've heard that there is actually a number of underrated towns and cities in Belgium that are worth a visit. It's also interesting to consider the differences between the French and Dutch influences on the country, and the role  that Brussels plays in European integration.

From what I can remember, my only distinct trip to Belgium specifically was a short family holiday to Brugges. It's a very pretty place, with some cool old buildings.
