More to it than meets the eye,
Cities in desert.
In 2014, my wife and I spent a few days in Dubai. I'm sure most people have a strong opinion about Dubai, even those who have never visited. I enjoy visiting the Middle East, so I found the city interesting in some ways, fascinating in its extremity, and also occasionally a touch over-the-top. Like other similar cities in the region, it's amazing how few local people one sees around (as a visitor), and how many foreign workers have settled there. We did have some really delicious food in restaurants, and were taken aback by the size of things, from the malls to the Burj Khalifa. It's also nice down by the Marina.
I suppose Dubai is a good place to visit if you're incredible rich. But I also wouldn't mind going back and really trying to see some of the older parts and be shown around by a local Emirati who really knows the history of the city. One day, maybe - it is a travel hub, after all.
