Small is beautiful,
Packed with things to see and do,
Rich, diverse, stunning.
In 2013, my wife and I spent a week or so in Sri Lanka after having been to Bangladesh for my cousin's wedding. It didn't disappoint - we were completely over-awed by how many incredible and diverse places there are to visit in this small island. We started off in Colombo, which in itself is not the greatest city to visit as a tourist, but makes for a good base. We then went to Kandy, which was beautiful with its rolling hills seen through the mist, and its colonial architecture. From there we ended up going to a totally different type of place, over to Arugam Bay on the East coast, where surfers hang out and life is laid back.
The food was delicious, we had a great time taking local transport, and people were incredibly friendly. It's easy to see why Sri Lanka is such a popular tourist destination - it has so much going for it.
