Qatar

Country #45

Oil, gas; extreme wealth,
Sticking out, into the Gulf,
In modernity.

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Doha, where the sun, heat, and wealth absorbed us completely.

Qatar is fascinating insofar as its wealth is so new and so extreme. I must admit to having something of a soft spot for visiting these Middle Eastern countries, as there's something about the atmosphere that I just enjoy. It's also interesting from an economic perspective, and from a migration perspective too.

I don't remember in great detail, but no doubt we looked at the malls, walked by the waterfront, and wined and dined very comfortably. We also decided to go for a walk in the middle of the day, for some reason, which was just mind-blowingly hot. I was dripping with sweat underneath my t-shirt, but the sweat was evaporating between my skin and the t-shirt, so the outside of it looked completely dry. Crazy.
