Unhurried and calm,
Somehow quite mesmerising,
But not dazzlingly.
In 2012, I spent a few days in Lomé, having arrived by land from Ghana and before going on to Benin (see here for why I ended up spending a little longer in Togo than I was originally planning).
There isn't a whole lot going on in Lomé, but somehow I ended up quite liking the place. It's a bit sleepy, but being stretched right along the coast gives it a nice backdrop. The roads are wide, often empty, and it doesn't have quite the same full-on charm as somewhere like Freetown, but it's not a bad place to end up for a few days. Plus, I stayed in a little oasis of a hotel, which also had incredibly delicious French-inspired food - superb.
